Flow Psychology

Counselling & Wellbeing

We are a diverse team of health and psychology practitioners located at this calm and welcoming clinic in the coastal town of Sawtell.

We offer a wide range of services including individual psychotherapy, EMDR and Emotional Freedom Technique, relationship counselling

and remedial massage. We believe that everyone holds the key to their own healing potential and that the role of the clinician is to guide and support this unique journey of recovery.

Moving towards a meaningful, connected life is within everyone's reach, where we can treat ourselves, others and the land with nurturance and kindness.

Alex Halsted

I am originally from London and have been living in this beautiful part of the world for 12 years now. My therapeutic approach, as a psychologist, has a foundation of mindfulness and self-compassion, helping to develop more awareness towards all the different aspects that make us who we are and becoming more present to each moment around us while learning to treat ourselves in a kind, loving and nurturing way.

The modalities I weave through this practise include EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), IFS (Internal Family Systems), Schema Therapy and Inner Child Work.

I have particular interest in Eco-Psychology and believe we cannot seperate the healing of ourselves with connection and healing of the land. I also have a passion for supporting people on their unique spiritual path and discovering more meaning and purpose in their lives.

Jill Hely

I am a psychologist working with people in their teens through to later life. My aim is to help people find a way through issues that may be holding them back and to move towards a rich and full life. I subscribe to a wholistic approach to mental health, considering childhood and family issues, past traumas, health issues, balancing a healthy lifestyle with other priorities, values and beliefs, as well as managing school, work, and relationships.

I use evidence-based therapies tailored to the individual, including mindfulness-based therapies (especially Compassion Focussed Therapy), Interpersonal Psychotherapy, EMDR and EFT tapping, and trauma-informed counselling, paying careful attention to the impact of thoughts and memories on physical feelings and somatic sensations.

Lisa Abraham

Clinical Psychologist, BSc(Hons), MPsych (Clinical)

As your psychologist, I work collaboratively with you to help you pursue a more fulfilling life. That means understanding your needs and therapy preferences and involving you in all decisions about your personalised treatment plan. The therapies I draw on are strength-based so they emphasise your resilience and resourcefulness in the face of adversity.

I have particular experience in supporting people living with chronic physical illnesses, pain and associated complications. In my public health role, I am a Clinical Psychologist in Chronic Pain service on the NSW mid-north coast and have previously worked in a Diabetes Clinic at a major public hospital in Sydney.

I am an Adjunct Fellow at Western Sydney University where I contribute to teaching and supervision of psychology trainees.

Joan Low Neville

Counsellor | Child and Family Therapist

Hi, my name is Joan and I am a Trauma Counsellor and Child and Family Therapist in private practice. I am originally from Singapore and have been a Counsellor for over 10 years in various social services, school settings and in Domestic and Family Violence specialist services. I am passionate about trauma healing and recovery, especially with women and children. I work from a strengths-based, trauma-informed and integrative approach and have a special passion in working with complex trauma in the Domestic and Family Violence space, advocating for the voices of women and children to be heard, while promoting a sense of safety, healing and growth.

I weave in a number of different therapeutic modalities including Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Family Systems work, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Trauma-Informed Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness-based interventions and Child Play Therapy and believe that early intervention especially with children who have experienced trauma can make a significant contribution towards healthy development and wellbeing.

My hope is to support you to feel safe and respected from our first interaction and listen closely to what is going to make counselling helpful and worth your while. I believe it is important to make the counselling experience a hopeful and optimistic one. I hope to put at ease any anxiety or hesitation you may have about counselling and walk away feeling more empowered, uplifted, supported and valued as an individual.

Debra Reinholdtsen

BAppSc (Physio) M.A.P.A.

Graduating in 1990 from Curtin University (Perth WA) Debra comes to ‘Flow Psychology Counselling and Well Being’ with over 30 years experience as a physiotherapist in both the public and private sectors.  For the last 18 years Debra has enjoyed living, working and raising her family on the wonderful Coffs Coast and Dorrigo Plateau.

Chronic headache & migraine management is a very under-resourced, poorly understood and poorly managed area. As a migraine sufferer herself, Debra is well aware of the gap in support for this debilitating condition. Over the years she has sought to broaden her skill base to help those attending her practice with headaches and migraines.  This has taken her on a long journey.

Debra is now the only Level 2 Watson Headache® approach clinician in the region & is currently undertaking her Level 3 Certification in this very promising approach to headache & migraine management. She has also completed numerous courses including chronic pain management, breathing retraining, vestibular & dizziness management, advanced cervical spine assessment & management courses & attended international headache symposiums/conferences.

Debra is excited to now be able to offer a dedicated headache clinic to the Coffs Coast and prides herself in offering an evidence based, client centred, holistic & educational approach to headache & migraine management.

Private Health Cover Rebates are available and Chronic Care referrals from your GP for Medicare Rebate are also accepted.
